Pawn Stars’ Rick Harrison Has Racing In His Blood

LAS VEGAS, NV - DECEMBER 01: Rick Harrison fr...

During a Pawn Stars episode recently, Rick Harrison was considering a purchase of a dragster. For a change, he was not behind the desk trying to pawn gold or jewelry from a customer. No, he was out in the field on this one; refreshing change of pace in the show. At any rate, the seller of the dragster was all enamored with the whole television environment and seemed to be convinced that good old Rick was his new bud and would by the speedster.

It was a real surprise when Rick decided to jump in and take it for a test drive; makes sense, right? The decision was a smart move since there could be anything wrong with it not detectable unless it was driven.

Well, Rick seems to have some real racing blood running, or should I say, speeding through his veins. When sitting at the starting line waiting for the lights to go from red to green, he really got into character. Sweat beading down his forehead, an intense look on his face, and a tight, no, a very tight grip on the steering wheel were all obvious just watching the screen.

The light hits green and suddenly the tires start spinning and smoking, just like you see when professionals are slicking up their tires. The wheels grabbed the surface and he shot out of their like the Navy’s F-15 fighter jets at take-off on an aircraft carrier; literally a slingshot effect.

English: Dragster at Sunset Strip Drag Racing,...

Rick Harrison admitted that he now knew how Navy fighter pilots feel at take-off.

It is a shame that there was no camera shot of his eyes when that bad boy took off. Rick admitted he was a little scared, but that the car steered good and got him to the finish. It appeared that the car would be worth the $30,000 being asked.

Whoa! Stop the presses! Rick could have knocked the owner over with a feather when the price offered was a mere $11,000; a small $6,000 for the dragster and $5,000 for the trailer. You could see the huge disappointment on the owner’s face; he went completely pale.

“That would be giving it away.” remarked the owner when later he was interviewed, but accepted the fact and was ready to move on. Rick was really on target with this when he later described just how poor of a shape the vehicle was in; bad engine, out-dated front-end, and vital systems needing an overhaul. Got to hand it to Mr. Harrison, he really does know what he is talking about.

Betsy Bovine – A New Cajun Pawn Star?

How far would you go to pawn something you think is valuable, or at least of some value? What would you pawn if you owned animals instead of gold or valuable jewelry? Now there is a new series called “Cajun Pawn Stars” that just might fill your hankering for some real crazy pawn shop action. The series just began on January 8th and is claimed to be a huge hit. Donkeys, cows, and who knows what else will appear on this show. But, how far is too far when it comes to reality shows?

two cows

Cows are not the first choice when thinking of pawning your valuables, or are they?

Much can be said for less being more, but the concept for this series may not have a thing to do with the usual pawn shop scene. No, this is about making money, and hopefully, make people laugh. There really needs to be a lot of redeeming value for the sake of entertainment. I only hope that no one takes this show seriously, because it is not humanly possible that it was meant to be a serious show. Do not mistake the meaning here, yes people take their work seriously, of course, it is a job to the those putting this show together.

There is probably someone out there who just might think that it is perfectly alright to throw a rope on old Betsy and haul her prime cuts down to the local pawn shop. Please, please reconsider for your own psychological sake. Doing this may permanently scar the minds of those who actually witness this bovine blunder. Anyway, I hope that this show is all it is designed to be; an entertainment piece for those who need a break from the seriousness of the world.

Corey Harrison Loses A Lot And Wins Even More

Weight loss programs has been a lucrative business for at least 30 years or so. Back in the early 1980’s, there began to be a fever for exercise, weight management products and programs, and aerobics. All of this took off and some very in-tune entrepreneurs cashed in big time. As time progressed, the industry went through the digital age and awakened to a whole new approach of shedding the pounds. Somewhere along the way, science took hold and created a huge empire of supplements for the purpose of losing pounds.

English: Gastric Banding

Lap Band procedures have helped people from all walks of life, including some more popular folks like Corey Harrison of Pawn Stars.

Most recently, in the last decade, bariatrics took off, surging in popularity and frequency of occurrence. The medical doctors who began investing a lot of time and educational in-service energy in this field of study would become astoundingly successful. Timing of this science is interesting to say the least. With the onset of popular video games, fast food availability, and processed foods, obesity became an epidemic, literally, affecting adults and children alike. While I have not heard of a Lap Band surgery being performed on anyone younger than 18 years of age, it has turned out to be one of the most popular forms of weight loss surgery across the country.

Not only does the general public now have access, the cost has dramatically decreased allowing for more and more insurance companies to be more apt to approve the procedure. It is still a very successful way to shed some unwanted weight and is even used by those considered to be stars or popular actors. Recently, in fact, Corey Harrison of the new hit show Pawn Stars has taken the initiative to change his habits and take better care of his health losing 115 pounds; great job Corey!

Part of the process for improving his health included a Lap Band surgery in an attempt to get off of medications, avoid becoming a diabetic, and eliminate the pain in his hips and legs. To sell jewelry, gold, and other luxury items, it takes energy and focus when working with customers. The whole work day, according to Corey, is so much easier. Perhaps, this is something that will inspire others to consider a similar path for becoming healthier for the new year.

Chumlee Antics or Reality?

The Fabulous Chumlee

Chumlee is everywhere!

How would you like to own anything you could possibly want? This is certainly a dream of many, but rarely is it ever realized; unless, of course, you are Chumlee of the hit television cable show Pawn Stars. He has become something of an icon, and has done so in very quick fashion. What has contributed to his success, at least in part, is his ability to maintain a straight face while doing and saying some really quirky stuff.

Why does he act this way? Is this really who he is or is it some facade to get the ratings? Only Chumlee can answer these questions. Frankly, to many of his followers, this does not matter. He is one well-liked fella that has a lot of money because of his ability to be himself; at least that is the way it appears. It does not appear he made all that money selling gold or jewelry.

If you had one question that could be asked of our friend, what would that one interesting question be? Here is a fascinating thought; imagine all of the ideas that come to mind when contemplating this concept.

How about this question, “Chumlee, how do you really feel about  the other guys on Pawn Stars?” That could be a real fire storm. Not to create a problem for anyone on the show, but you have to wonder if they really are that mean to Chumlee all of the time. Of course, to them it may not come across as being mean; it may be the best way to deal with Chumlee’s personality. Everyone has their own way of coping with others who really rub them the wrong way. It just so happens that the entire nation and people across the world get to see how Rick and the others cope…or don’t cope with Chumlee’s antics.

How About The Chumlee Phenomenom

IMG_4327

Famous, fun-loving, and most definitely care-free describes the admired Chumlee.

If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear the cheers coming from the fans of Pawn Stars. Yep, there it is. They are chanting, “Chumlee, Chumlee, Chumlee” and it seems to be getting louder. Okay, so you can’t really hear the  cheers over the Internet or on the cable show, but if you pay any attention at all to what is showing up on the web, Chumlee is getting a lot of attention. By all accounts, he has become the most popular character on the television show, Pawn Stars. This is a show about a pawn shop in Las Vegas where a family spends most of their time fussing and cussing about something that…you guessed it, something that Chumlee did or said.

LAS VEGAS, NV - DECEMBER 01: Austin 'Chumlee'...

Chumlee is by far the most popular "star" on Pawn Stars.

Give the guy a break! Sure he brings the teasing and harassment upon himself, for the most part; and, yes he definitely contributes to his own delinquency; and, of course, he is always looking out for his best interest. But, does that mean he should be tormented and taunted beyond belief? Now that I think about it, yes, he probably deserves everything he gets. Nonetheless, all of this attention has brought him some pretty serious fame and fortune. When the guy goes out to buy a Maserati, this should send a clear message that money is certainly flowing in, and it is doing so in large quantities apparently.

No matter how you may feel about good old Chumlee, he also deserves some credit here. He has shirts with his caricature on it, other items mass-produced that are all about him and his role on Pawn Stars. His namesake alone is probably worth millions right now. In fact, it would not surprise many of us if he does not turn out to be the most successful of the entire clan; now there is irony for you. With all due respect, and Chumlee is due a little bit, at some point this whole series and concept will grow old. When that time will be is anyone’s guess. For many fans, they surely hope that it is not in the near future. As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” Does that mean that all bad things never end? Oh well, that is way too deep for now.

An antique signal cannon from the 1980’s TV series Magnum P.I has the Pawn Stars off to the shooting range! Will the guys make an offer to the tune of 20 or 30 GRAND like the seller is asking, or will they decide this deal just doesn’t have the fire power? You guessed it! Check out the episode on http://www.history.com/shows/pawn-stars/videos/playlists/full-episodes.

There was a  lighter and photos from a “top-secret 1950’s atomic bomb testing program” that came into the shop, but I was skeptical of the seller… see how the pawn stars handled this buy.

My favorite Pawn Stars moment!

A Trecky pops in with a ton of signed Star Trek keep sakes and collectibles. What will Corey and Chumlee do? Go boldly go where no offer has gone before?

New Episode of ‘Pawn Stars’ Tonight! Friday, Jul 8, 9/8c ‘Darth Pawn’

Tonight’s brand new episode of the hit series, ‘Pawn Stars’ will feature WWII Airplanes, life-sized Star Wars figures and a violin from the 1700’s that was stumbled across in one of the many customers closets. Apparently, Chumlee is going to be adding the majority of obvious humor to this evenings episode.

Can’t Wait!

Best Chumlee Quote, thus far:

Hardcore Pawn Renews Contract for a Fifth Season

hardcore pawn

local pawn shop

While the History Channel’s Pawn Stars is by far the more popular of the two, Hardcore Pawn just signed a new contract for a 5th season.

While both shows do not fully represent what a local pawn shop is, Hardcore pawn is the closest.  They actually show people pawning and selling somewhat normal things.  I’ve worked in the pawn and jewelry business for almost five years and I have never seen a 15th century Samurai sword come in to my shop.  While the pawn business has been doing well over the past few years, Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn are on TV and need to draw ratings.  They show these outrageous things being pawned in an effort to gain more viewers.

Pawn Stars’ Own Chumlee Buys $100K Maserati

Chumlee in His New Ride

TMZ is reporting that Chumlee from Pawn Stars just bought a $100K Maserati sports car.  I knew these guys were making money but wow!  That’s an expensive car.

While Gold and Silver Pawn is a big money maker itself, Chumlee also gets money from doing endorsements and appearances.  Not only is he the comic relief on the show, but he is the most popular.

TMZ also reported that he bargained his way into only paying 85% of the list price on the Maserati.  It must be nice to be Chumlee.

Pawn Stars Boca Raton Pawn Commercial

The staff at Boca Raton Pawn have just become their own version of “Pawn Stars”.  Their commercial made its TV debut a few days ago and they are already seeing an increase in traffic to their website and store.  Just like the show Pawn Stars was its own commercial for the local pawn shop Gold and Silver Pawn, Boca Raton Pawn’s new commercial hopes to drive a similar amount of traffic.

Boca Raton Pawn specializes in high dollar, low interest loans on items ranging from Rolex watches, to diamond engagement rings.  They have a beautiful store in downtown Boca Raton which helps to serve people from all over South Florida.

New Episode of Pawn Stars Tonight: Boca Raton Pawn

local pawn shop

This is the actual missile guidance system!

Pawn Stars has a new episode on History channel tonight.  Pawn Stars airs every Monday night at 10 PM.

Tonight, the guys at the local pawn shop consider buying a missile guidance system!  It seems like every week Pawn Stars has another super interesting item they are looking to buy.  It doesn’t get much more exciting than a missile guidance system.

I can’t imagine if that came into my local pawn shop.  I wouldn’t even know where to start.  Bring me gold, bring me watches, even bring me handbags; but a missile guidance system?  I’ll have to watch tonight’s episode and find out what it’s worth.  .

Pawn Stars King of Monday Night TV Ratings

local pawn shop

local pawn shop

The show Pawn Stars on the History Channel continues to be one of the most popular on TV.  This past Monday they won the ratings war again with a 2.4.  The next closest show was WWE’s Raw at 2.0.

I’m sure when the producers of Pawn Stars decided to start filming a local pawn shop they thought it would be successful; but not this successful.  Imagine, a show about a local pawn shop was the highest rated show on TV on Monday!

Pawn Stars shows the nuances of the pawn business.  However, most of the stuff features on Pawn Stars has something to do with “history” as the show is shown on the History Channel.  With each piece a diagram pops up with a few history lessons to teach the audience.  While historic items like this don’t come into my local pawn shop as often as they do on Pawn Stars, you can still get an idea for how a pawn shop is run.

Pawn Stars is an entertaining TV show that helps the image of local pawn shop all around the world.
